Carloway can approached three ways: The North way: Follow the road to Ness out of Stornoway (A857), continue on this road for approx 11 miles. In the village of Barvas (Barabhas—Gaelic spelling) turn left toward the Westside (A858) through the villages of Arnol, Bragar, Shawbost on to Carloway. Turn right towards the Blackhouse village then follow local directions- total distance from Stornoway approx 22 miles South way: Leave Stornoway on the Tarbet road (A859) to leurbost, just after the petrol station turn right towards Achmore and Garynahine (this is now the main way though not shown on maps as yet). Follow this road through the above villages, through Callanish and Breasclete and onto Carloway. Just past the churches turn left towards the Blackhouse village, then follow local directions - total distance from Stornoway approx 23 miles The adventurous way! Leave Stornoway on the Tarbet road (A859) at Marybank turn right, by a telephone sign, Just pass Lava garage turn left. Travel along this road until you reach Carloway. There are two tunings off one to Achmore and one to Breasclete take neither. Finally you go under a road bridge turn right immediately after and then left, follow local directions. This is an adopted road, which is single track and has a rather uneven surface. There are no dwellings here and it is debatable if there is breakdown cover, or mobile phone signal—You have been warned! -total distance from Stornoway approx 17 miles
